City makes progress with upgrade of Amandel Road, Kuils River

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate is making good progress with the upgrade of Amandel Road in Kuils River and would like to advise residents of the new road closure that will be in place. As of Thursday, 25 May 2023, Amandel Road between Church Street and Waternooientjie Street, Kuils River will be temporarily closed due to these necessary roadworks along this portion of the road. 

The City's Urban Mobility Directorate would like to advise all road users in the area that the temporary road closure along Amandel Road between Church Street and Waternooientjie Street will be in place from 09:00 till 15:00 during week days.

The City will ensure that road closure and detour signs are in place to guide motorists to Amandel Road via the alternative routes along Waternooientjie Street, Walnut Avenue and Church Street.

'The upgrade of Amandel Road into a dual carriageway forms part of the City's Congestion Management Strategy which will result in traffic congestion relief across the Bottelary River. Congestion relief is critical in this district as Kuils River and surrounding areas are growing neighbourhoods. Major upgrade projects such as this one will therefore be vital in managing the additional traffic through the area. We ask that residents remain patient while the work is under way. We thank you for your ongoing support while we are implementing projects that will improve mobility through this area,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

The existing dual carriageway on Amandel Road in Kuils River will be extended by upgrading the current single carriageway between the Bottelary River bridge and Church Street. This will include the construction of a secondary dualled road-over-river bridge that will run parallel to the existing bridge across the Bottelary River. A separate cycling lane will be incorporated from the roundabout at Langverwacht Road through to Soneike Mall.
